Tarn Moor

This project was a commission to design and supply a glulam frame as part of a new build eco-friendly house in Surrey.

The main structure of the house creates an interesting feature aesthetically, using tapered cranked valley rafters which repeat through the main living area. This gives the effect of a winged shape and as it allows the walls to be of a great height, floods the space with light and brings the outside in.

The frame itself was manufactured using spruce glulam and all of the dowel and bolt connections were concealed within the wood to give a seamless finish. The final structure was finished with a simple clear varnish to allow the colour of the wood to shine through.

This project was the winner of the Low Energy Project of the Year at the Structural Timber Awards 2022
