Project Manager

£36,000.00-£46,000.00 per year

We are a family-run glulam manufacturer tackling some of the UK’s most complex and architecturally challenging timber structures from design through to installation. We work in a collaborative way to achieve ambitious goals whilst striving for continuous improvement.

The Role

Based at our site in Crediton, Devon. You will be assigned projects to manage from the point of order through to manufacture and installation. Our ideal candidate would have some site work or management experience and would also be able to support our other project managers with this aspect.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Site & Installation Lead: You’ll coordinate with main contractors, manage installers, and visit sites across the UK to ensure our glulam structures are progressing as planned. Management of installation ranges from a small team (2-4) of labour only where you will assist with RAMS and close management through to working with larger subcontract partners. You will work with our installers to manage the install process safely.

Practical Project Oversight: Managing a diverse portfolio (from £10k private builds to £1m Tier One contracts), you’ll review tender info with a practical eye to spot risks before projects are put into manufacture.

Design & Procurement: You will work closely with engineers and draughtsmen to ensure the design is buildable. For larger schemes this will also involve coordination with the wider project design team. You’ll manage the supply chain, procure materials, and keep a close eye on lead times.

Client Management: Act as the face of Buckland Timber. You’ll manage the programme and have a commercial awareness to manage risks; you will keep the client updated from start to finish.

Safety & Quality: You’ll prepare and check RAMS and ensure all site documentation are appropriate and being followed. You will hand over the project to the Client, ensuring snags are closed out and defects are responded to as required.

Who You Are:

Construction experience: a background in site management, installation, or technical timber construction would be beneficial. You understand how a site operates and how to liaise with site contractors (main contractors and our install subcontractors).

Live locally or willing to relocate: You are looking for a stable, office-based role in Crediton where you can communicate face to face with designers, other project managers, manufacturing and accounts staff etc. We are open to some working from home once established withing the role.

Problem Solver: You can look at drawings and identify where the “on-site” headaches might be. You can identify ‘blockages’ in any of the process from design to install and work to solve them.

Organised: You can juggle multiple projects and monitor budgets/forecasting to keep the project on track. You can look ahead and prioritise your work load based accordingly.
