Job Vacancies at Buckland Timber

Project Manager

£35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year

Job brief

At our home in Devon, our team of designers, structural engineers, project managers, carpenters and joiners all work under one roof. We provide glulam for the broadest range of project needs, from a single beam to the design, manufacture and installation of equestrian-sized arenas.

We design, manufacture and install glulam structures which are often very complex or architecturally challenging and are looking to recruit someone to help with our increasing workload.

The role would be quite varied and cover the project lifecycle from project start-up to detailed design, procurement and management of the supply chain. We would need you to support in the  manufacture phase for both inhouse and from external suppliers, and then move onto delivery and install on site, which requires coordination with sub and main contractors .

You can expect the role to cover the following:

Responsibilities

  • Management of multiple projects at the same time often ranging from £10k to £1m. You will be working with private home builders up to Tier One contractors and all that fall in between.
  • Initiate project start up having reviewed project information provided at tender phase. You will be the main point of contact for the project.
  • Be part of commercial discussions with the customer in order to finalise contracts
  • Program the work and keep the customer informed of progress.
  • Manage the programme in accordance with the terms and conditions of the project.
  • Determine the route for project delivery, assigning the engineering and drafting work to appropriate people (can be internal or external)
  • Monitor the progress of the design work against program, understand where issues and delays can occur in this process and facilitate communication between the project team and the customers design team to keep the process moving.
  • Manage risk, highlighting them to the wider project team and working to mitigate their impact where possible.
  • Work with the supply chain to manage lead times. Procure materials and fixings and monitor progress of this with suppliers.
  • Monitor project costs against budget and work with the finance team for forecasting and payment applications.
  • Once design is approved hand over the project to the manufacture team. Monitor the manufacture progress against the program and keep the customer informed.
  • Arrange installers for the project and check RAMS or arrange these to be checked by a suitable competent person.
  • Liaise with site during install, visiting site where necessary. We have national coverage so these site visits can be UK wide.
  • Review project costs against budgets.
  • Liaise with client throughout the project on necessary project documents such as quality management plans, as built information and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Provide input and feedback to the Estimating team to develop quotes.

Requirements

Previous experience in a similar role and qualifications would be beneficial, but we are keen to find the right person for the role and therefore any level of qualification and experience, preferably in the construction industry, will be considered. We will provide training as necessary and support the individual to obtain any necessary qualifications needed for the role such as a CSCS card.

Package:

This role has an expected 38 hours per week. Flexible working within the hours of 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday at our factory in Crediton. You’d need to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work but there is potential for hybrid once established.
